Hello! Let me introduce you to my friend and client, Erin Stoll with Style Thief Fashion. She believes every woman deserves to feel amazing! She helps her clients achieve a style that fits their life today. A style that feels like them, that shows their spark, that doesn’t take a lot of time, effort or money to achieve.
I’ve followed Erin on Instagram for awhile now and when she said she was looking for personal branding photography to showcase WHO she is and WHAT she does, I jumped at the chance!
And now, I’m going to turn it over to Erin as she shares her three steps and also the images we captured at our personal branding session. It was a blast! And, don’t forget to sign up for her email newsletter. She’s launching big things this year!
Happy New Year beautiful! A new year always brings a fresh perspective, a chance to start over and a new beginning–this is especially true in fashion and with your style!
While the stores want you to you already start thinking of spring and summer (YES I SAW BATHING SUITS THIS WEEK! Hard NO on that!) most of us are now settling into the loooong winter months. The shine and festive holiday outfits are behind us and that can leave us feeling a bit BLAH as we open our closets and wear the same old jeans and sweater every.single.day.
Fear not, my fashion friends! Here are my 3 tips for keeping your style fresh, fun, inspired and still very much “YOU” in the new year!
1. START WITH AN EDIT
I don’t make a lot of resolutions each new year, but I do always take the opportunity to clean and de-clutter after the holidays. When I think of a fresh start one of the first places I do this is in my closet. We are well into winter by January so I go through all my winter items. I try on pretty much everything a go through these questions:
Do I LOVE this? Does it make me feel good? Anything starting to lose its luster and need to be replaced? Is the fit off–too big or small, stretched out? Is this item representing who I am NOW?
Once I’ve gone through these questions I toss out anything that I no longer love, feel good in, or that is just worn out! Then I have a fresh, clear picture of the clothes that I’m working with and a clear picture of my current style. Now I am ready to….
2. SHOP!… Your closet that is!
Now that you have a re-freshed closet its time to SHOP! But hold on–I’m not talking about those online sales! It is SO easy to fall for the after holiday sales. Sure you can score “Up to 75% off!” but after a season of over-indulging, save your pennies and play in your closet instead. Challenge yourself to find 3 new ways to wear items in your closet. Grab your coziest sweater and pair it with a flowy skirt and fun booties to dress up the boring jeans/sweater outfit. Have a dress you love? Add a belt or throw a cozy knit sweater or fur vest over it and add knee-high boots. Try new combos–lace with distressed denim, blazers over a graphic tee, your favorite work blouse with a statement earring, jeans and heels for a night out. Mix it up and you will breathe new life into your wardrobe!
3. Stay true to YOU!
Now that your closet is edited and you have some fun new outfits, you may want to add a new piece or two to freshen things up! So fun! I find its helpful to keep a list of things you want to add: Maybe its a new coat, a pair of boots, a new sweater–nothing wrong with using those gift cards or now taking advantage of the sales to add a FEW items to your wardrobe.
Here’s the thing to keep in mind: more is not more. Be INTENTIONAL about what you want to bring in and how it will work with what you’ve already got. Maybe you decide the new year is the time to spice things up and try some new trends. I am ALLLL for that! Just know that you don’t have to embrace every new trend that you see. Combat boots are big right now for example. But do they feel too masculine for you or remind you too much of those high school Doc Martens? Totally fine–skip that trend! Maybe you love animal prints like snake or leopard. Choose a shoe or accessory and build from there. Only embrace the trends that TRULY feel like you, but with the volume turned up. You should put on that new piece and feel an immediate “YES! THIS IS SO ME!” If you don’t feel that way say ” Good for someone else, just not for me” and then move on. Remember that you will always look your best when you stay true to YOU.
